Sigge Björklund 1926 - 2018 Posted on Dec 7th, 2018

pix-Sigge_Bjorklund.jpgAlf Sigvald Björklund (Sigge) passed away peacefully late in the evening on November 10, 2018 with family at his side. He was born in Lappfjärd, Finland, and immigrated to Vancouver in 1956.

Sigge worked as an electrician throughout the Lower Mainland and later founded the ski shop Sigge’s Sport Villa. He is well known for his passion and commitment to cross country skiing in Western Canada. As one of the original members of CANSI, he was active on our board and as a course conductor. His leadership helped grow the sport and the association during our early years in the late 70s, 80s and early 90s.

Shane Landreville new CANSI Master Instructor Posted on Mar 15th, 2018

With his bright smile and smooth skiing, Shane has become the 5th CANSI Master Instructor after Keith Nicol, Mark Simpson, Marie-Catherine Bruno and Guy Paulsen. He is also the youngest one to achieve this elite status, an accomplishment he can rightly be proud of.

Shane achieved his X-Country level IV instructor certification last February at Silver Star on a course conducted by Marie-Catherine Bruno.

A Telemark racer on the international scene, Shane was also a Telemark level III instructor since April 2016. He lives and skis at Silver Star, BC.

Congratulations Shane.

More Course announcements from CANSI Pacific Posted on Feb 16th, 2010

Greetings CANSI Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that we are offering some more courses, including some long awaited Telemark Programs. These courses are now open for registration. As usual we are offering early bird registration with a 20% discount in effect if you sign up 14 days or sooner prior to course start (see detailed list below).

This has been an unusual season, with the Olympics having a big impact in turns of venues and examiners being available as well as unusually warm temperatures on the Coast. As you can see, we will get caught up in March/ April. Thanks for your patience while we work through these challenges. All of our refreshers are free for active CANSI members this year and all courses can provide opportunities for retests or refresher, by prior consent of the course conductor.

2005-2006 Pacific Region Year End Report Posted on Dec 1st, 2006

Post a comment

The 2005-2006 season was a busy season for the Pacific Region. A number of courses were scheduled and run through out the province including a northern BC XC refresher in 100 Mile, a level 2 XC course in Smithers and a number of tele courses throughout the BC and the Yukon. It has been exciting to re-establish contact with northern communities and provide improved service to these areas. We have tried to utilize the Xcitation newsletter more in order to cut some of our mailing costs but still keep our members informed.

Ski Touring in Norway (by Mark Simpson) Posted on Oct 4th, 2006

I knew I was a different place when I left the chrome and glass and urban Euro-bustle of Schipol Airport in Amsterdam and landed in Oslo, Norway. I was greeted at Gardermoen Airport with polished real wood floors, hewn beams and airport staff cruising around on push scooters instead of electric carts. This must be a nation that values natural environments and self-propelled locomotion! I had landed in the cradle of Nordic skiing. It had been a dream of mine since I discovered Telemark skiing to visit its birthplace and drink deeply of the mountain culture…

Celebrating life of Michael Moran (1958-2006) Posted on Oct 2nd, 2006

Greetings all. In case you have not heard, it is with great sadness that I must inform you that Mike Moran - CANSI Ontario’s master course conductor, a very generous teacher and talented Nordic skier - has just passed away this Saturday morning (around 9 am) in Barrie’s hospital.
