Sigge Björklund 1926 - 2018 Posted on Dec 7th, 2018

pix-Sigge_Bjorklund.jpgAlf Sigvald Björklund (Sigge) passed away peacefully late in the evening on November 10, 2018 with family at his side. He was born in Lappfjärd, Finland, and immigrated to Vancouver in 1956.

Sigge worked as an electrician throughout the Lower Mainland and later founded the ski shop Sigge's Sport Villa. He is well known for his passion and commitment to cross country skiing in Western Canada. As one of the original members of CANSI, he was active on our board and as a course conductor. His leadership helped grow the sport and the association during our early years in the late 70s, 80s and early 90s.

He then passed the torch onto others within his region, including his son Anders.

An avid outdoorsman, Sigge will be remembered for his love of skiing, hiking and paddling. He is survived by his wife, Elene, and his three children, Anders (Jodie), Lars (Tanya) and Kristina (Graham). His children are most grateful for the memories that were created year after year at the family cabin. His long stories, enormous hugs and tears of laughter will be deeply missed.

The Björklund family has requested that in lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Sigge's name to: http://www.cccski.com/Donate/Donate-to-CCC.aspx or http://cansav.ca/take-action#donate.

Another great member of CANSI continues to ski in the heavens above and will be remembered always.
