Come on in and make yourself at home. At your fingertips, you can find out the latest information from CANSI and register for instructor certification training courses. If you are already a member, you can view your certification information and keep your contact information up-to-date, as well as renew your membership on-line. If you're not quite ready to do this on-line, you can still contact our National Office at (819) 360-6700 during business hours in the Eastern Time zone.

This website is the result of a lot of work by dedicated volunteers, and professional web application development by Firmwater Inc. This was all made possible through funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

In the members-only section (click on Members-Area on the right) there are learning and teaching materials. The system allows us to create on-line training materials to help prepare you for your next certification course. As this material is added, it will become a valuable part of your on-going professional training and development.

Certification Information

Many members are finding errors in their certification data when they login. The new system allows you to see your certification information, while in past years this information wasn't published. Now that this information is readily available, we are seeing that some clerical errors were made in past years and also that some course sheets were not recorded. If you find any errors in your certifications when you login, please contact the National Office. Now that this information is published and readily available, there should be far fewer errors.

Online Payments

You can pay your membership renewal online, and also register for courses and pay for them online. For those of you who would prefer to pay by mail, contact the National Office.

Online payments, whether by credit card or PayPal account, are handled by PayPal. It is not necessary to have a PayPal account if you want to pay by credit card. Please note that some members have found the PayPal payment pages confusing, in part due to PayPal's desire to get you to register for a PayPal account. Please read the notes when you go to renew or pay for a course.

I want to register in a course but I do NOT want to use PAYPAL. What do I do?
When I get into the part of the site to register for a course, I can't find and easy way out other than going back page after page. This should be fixed.

You can call your regional course coordinator, who can book you for a course on your behalf. You just need to tell him/her your credit card number over the phone and which course you want. Or, if you are not in a hurry, you can send a cheque to the CANSI national office and they will contact the regional course coordinator on your behalf (once the cheque clears).

More details will be coming up in the FAQ pages. Please be patient.

Hello -

I tried today to open the manual. I login, and then I click on "Launch Manual".

But it does not open a PDF - instead it takes me to a blank HTML page with address https://lms.firmwater.com/lms/training/item.aspx?iid=442
and a little icon that says "go back" and that is all!

I wondered if anyone else is having this problem. Normally my computer opens up Acrobat docs just fine.

thanks!
(and the website looks great by the way)

Katherine, we are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it: i.e. making it so that you can see and read the manual easier online and/or download it to your computer.

But in the mean time, note that this manual is very large (close to 11MB) and in a PDF file that first needs to be loaded into your browser's window before you can see it. This download can take over a minute on some slower Internet connections.

You can watch this download progress in the lower left corner of a Microsoft IE browser, or in lower right corner of a Mozilla Firefox browser. (You may also want to make sure you have the latest Acrobat Reader on your computer.)

Hi Jan! just wanted to say that I got my organization's Acrobat updated and the manual opened up just fine for me.
Thank you for your help!

No CANSI courses in Saskatchewan? come on! do you think we can't ski here or what.

Dan Bulloch February 25th, 2007

There is currently only one professional instructor in Saskatchewan. The last course I'm aware of in Saskatchewan was in 2004. If there is enough interest we could probably organize another one. The other alternative would be to look at a travel subsidy to either a Manitoba or Alberta course.

No courses in BC either - but I think there are a few instructors there!

Often what will happen in regions with 'unscheduled courses' local people put the word out that a course is wanted and needed and it happens.

So I suggest you put the word out thru ski clubs and stores.

For a lot of people traveling out of province is not an option - though there are some amazing places to ski in both Ab and MB

Terry; you can register for courses by mail and telephone with the National Office, as well as on-line. It’s not especially obvious on the website that these options exist, but on-line, mail and telephone are available for membership payments and courses.

We encourage you to register on-line as it reduces our administrative costs, eliminates cash/cheque handling, it’s more accurate (since there is no transposition), you receive a receipt immediately, it’s secure, and it’s immediate (and you don’t risk missing out on early bird pricing).

Please note that you have 2 options when paying on-line: credit card (with PayPal clearing the payment) or using your PayPal account.

Thanks; Garry
